Tavendale Shetland Sheepdogs
is located on 4 ½ acres, one half hour drive from Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada. Tavendale
began approximately 25 years ago by Liz
Herron (Sandra’s sister) of Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan. Our involvement in the breed began with the purchase of a
sable male from Liz in 1988. "Max" went oversize but became an
obedience trial champion, superb companion, and captivated our interest
in this beautiful, intelligent breed. We currently keep approximately 8
adult shelties, several of which are retired veterans. All of the dogs
are house dogs at Tavendale
and are treated as part of the family. They sleep on the couch and all
love to go for Saturday morning car rides to town. The dogs enjoy lots
of room to run as ¾ of the property is fenced and very secure. (see
Sheltie Garden) Sandra and Nelson
are the driving force behind the breedings, whelping and day to day care
of the dogs. Katie
still enjoys showing and grooming alongside her Mom
Sandra, at the shows, but is taking more of
a backseat these days to raise her young family in Edmonton with her
husband Rick.
Over the years we have been fortunate to complete the championship of
many lovely shelties in all 3 colors as well as several obedience
titleholders. Tavendale
shelties have won Best In Specialty, class placements at Canadian and
American National Specialties, many group placements, Best Puppy in
Group and Best Puppy in Show. We have produced several High in Class
winners in obedience competition also.
Sandra, Nelson and Katie are members in
good standing with the Canadian
Kennel Club, and the Canadian
Shetland Sheepdog Association.
We carefully plan litters 2 or 3 times a year in all
colors. Puppies are well socialized to lots of different noises,
situations and kids to ensure loving, happy temperaments. Adults are
available occasionally.
